A Degree In Theology And Practical Training For Ministry – In One Program!

Solid ground for Ministry

The Master of Arts in Practical Theology is designed to better equip believers for their important ministry in the local church. These leaders usually serve under the direction of pastors and are not seeking admission to the ordained ministry.

This degree program prepares believers by increasing competence and understanding of the Word of God through proper hermeneutical and study skills, and by providing a theological framework for understanding the teaching of Scripture and the practices of ministry. The program is structured to provide a strong Biblical/theological/practical ministry foundation for leadership and to allow students to structure their own programs to meet perceived ministry needs.

Accreditation

This degree is from the Scandinavian School of Theology, not yet accredited. It is a professional degree that prepares students for pastoral or missionary ministry. The degree follows the standards of high-quality Master of Arts programs internationally. All instructors responsible for the courses hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Th.D.).

Assessment

The Assessment process is an integral part of the total educational program of the Scandinavian School of Theology. Within the context of the overall purpose of the Scandinavian School of Theology, the purpose of the Master of Arts in Practical Theology Program is “to graduate men and women who are spiritually, academically, and practically well equipped for ministry in the body of Christ.”

Assessment is a significant element in this formative process. Its purpose is to draw together the varied influences, experiences, and learning of the student on occasions that are clearly evaluative and advisory in intent. The primary aim of assessment is to provide an opportunity for the student, with the assistance of faculty advisors, to develop as a person preparing for ministry. The three fundamental aspects of this development are academic accomplishment, professional competence, and personal/spiritual growth. Within these areas, the assessment process aims to understand the student’s strengths and deficiencies in his or her preparation for ministry. The identification of areas of need and directions for future growth should result from assessment at each stage.

Assessment is undertaking in three stages: the first stage is a part of the entrance to the Master of Arts in Practical Theology program; the second is on a scheduled basis; usually upon completion of 24 graduate hours of theological studies; the third stage will be scheduled following the completion of 48 graduate hours and/or during the fifth (next to the last) whole semester of ministerial studies.
