FAQ
How is SST funded?
The Scandinavian School of Theology is an independent college without government funding. It is primarily supported through donations from individuals, churches, and companies.
What programs are available at the Scandinavian School of Theology?
We offer various programs and courses, from non-academic training to Bachelor’s level. Here is an overview of all the programs we offer.
Where can I read more about your courses?
The course syllabi provide more detailed information about courses, course literature, exam requirements, etc. See more about the courses we offer here!
In what language are courses taught at SST?
To handle the course materials, our students must be proficient in Swedish and English. Although most lectures are in Swedish, the course literature is also in both Swedish and English.
Do I need to meet eligibility requirements?
You must meet the eligibility requirements if you wish to take courses and earn credits. However, if you only want to attend a course as an audit (where you attend lectures and read the course literature), you do not need to meet the eligibility requirements. You will pay half of the course fee as an audit. Remember to register for the course you wish to attend!
What qualifications do I need to be accepted to start taking courses?
Basic eligibility is required for studies at SST. Anyone with a completed high school diploma, adult education, or a degree from a folk high school holds basic eligibility.
Can I get CSN (Swedish student financial aid) for my studies?
No, the Scandinavian School of Theology is not accredited in Sweden, so our students are not eligible for CSN. However, you can get CSN for the part of your studies completed at Southeastern University in the USA.
How is SST accredited?
The Scandinavian School of Theology is accredited through Southeastern University in Florida, USA. Our students can complete 75% of a Bachelor’s degree at STH and then go to SEU to complete the remainder of the program in the USA. They will then receive an internationally recognized Bachelor of Theology degree.
Can international students get a visa or residence permit to study at SST?
The Scandinavian School of Theology does not have approval from Swedish authorities as a recognized higher education institution. Therefore, we cannot admit students based on a Swedish visa invitation and can only admit non-visa-eligible students as online students.
How much does it cost to study at SST?
One credit costs 450 SEK. Most courses are 6-12 credits. The cost will be slightly lower if you are enrolled in a program and study full-time or part-time. See more under course fees here.
How long does a semester last, and when is the last day to apply for studies?
Like other universities in Sweden, we follow an academic calendar. A semester typically has about 20 study weeks. Check the specific semester or application dates here. If space allows, you may be admitted even after the application deadline.
What is the study structure at SST?
You study all the courses you register for in parallel over one semester (in some cases, over two semesters). All classes start at the beginning of the semester and end with final exams and assignments during the last week, exam week. A 6-credit course generally requires about 8 hours of study per week.
Is it possible to take courses remotely?
Yes, most courses are taught online, so you do not need to live in Uppsala or Sweden to study at SST. Students get access to a course portal where they follow pre-recorded or live lessons, along with other instructions from the teacher regarding course literature and assignments. Those studying the Bachelor of Arts in Ministry meet in Uppsala three times per semester and once during the summer.
Is it possible to drop out of a course?
Yes, you can drop out of a course you have started, but after a certain date, you will not be able to get a refund for the course fee. However, you can agree with the teacher to complete the course during another semester without extra costs. Contact the Office for more information.
Can I transfer credits and continue my studies at other universities in Sweden?
It varies from case to case, but generally, it is difficult to transfer credits to other universities because our school is not accredited in Sweden. The respective university or college assesses credit transfer.
