Doctor of Theology Göran Lennartsson
»I am a church planter«
Göran Lennartsson is a Pentecostal pastor and theologian. He grew up in the Pentecostal movement and was shaped by the revival period that marked his home church in Södertälje during the 1960s and 70s. After completing an engineering degree, he nurtured his interest in the Bible through university studies, culminating in a Bachelor of Theology degree from Uppsala in 1979.
He has been a full-time preacher since 1980, initially working as a staff member in Filadelfia Högsby in Småland and later in Filadelfia Stockholm, where he was responsible for the suburban congregation in Tyresö for about five years.
Göran worked internationally through Ibra Radio for a few years and was then based in the Middle East for a decade. His role included training leaders from across the Arab world.
With 30 years of experience in theological education, half of which has been at the academic level, Göran’s interest in Israel, the Jewish people, and the Jewish background of the Christian faith stems from his upbringing. Since the mid-1980s, it has concretely involved working with Jewish-Christian relations. His studies in Jerusalem during the 1970s, his living there during the 1990s, and numerous study trips with Scandinavian and international Christian leaders have made Jerusalem a ‘second hometown’ for him.
He earned a Doctor of Theology in New Testament Exegesis in Lund in 2007, with his dissertation titled Refreshing & Restoration: Two Eschatological Motifs in Acts 3:19-21.
He is the author of the books Inympad: Om kristendomens judiska rötter (Grafted: On the Jewish Roots of Christianity, Dagenhuset, 1995) and Barnabas, mentor & andlig pelare (Barnabas, Mentor & Spiritual Pillar, Didasko, 2009). He is also a co-author in Bibeltro – nio teologer om bibelsyn och bibelbruk (Bible Faith – Nine Theologians on Biblical View and Use, STH Academic, 2022). He writes theological articles, including for the journal Shalom över Israel.
Göran has daughters, Judith and Esther, and lives with his wife, Tatta, in Uppsala. They are both active in the Pentecostal Church of Uppsala. Now retired, he has not fully retired and regularly preaches. He spends his free time on a renovation project in northern Uppland and enjoys animals and nature, often with a camera on his shoulder.
