Collaboration With Southeastern University, Florida, USA

On January 1, 2019, a unique collaboration began between the Scandinavian School of Theology (SST) and Southeastern University (SEU) in Florida, USA. Southeastern University (SEU) is affiliated with the global Pentecostal denomination Assemblies of God, which has 3.2 million members in the USA and 69 million members worldwide across 370,000 congregations.

SEU offers a wide range of academic programs, from theology to media and economics. Currently, it has approximately 10,000 students, most of whom are enrolled in distance learning.

Southeastern University is located in beautiful Lakeland, Florida, known for its stunning natural surroundings and proximity to world attractions such as Disney World and Universal Studios. It also offers everything that American campus life offers: American football, a chapel with a couple of thousand students living on campus, and fresh environments.

The SST-SEU Partnership

The two institutions are partners, and the collaboration allows students to earn a fully internationally recognized bachelor’s degree (equivalent to a Swedish Bachelor’s degree) at SEU by completing the first three years in Sweden and finishing the final year either through distance learning or on campus in Florida. For example, a student can spend a semester in Florida focusing on pastoral ministry, worship, or missions while taking other courses online. After completing the bachelor’s degree, students can pursue both master’s and doctoral levels.

How It Works

The American higher education system differs from the Swedish system in the following ways:

• Credit Transfer: Students with a Swedish and often Nordic high school education can receive credit for certain high school courses since American colleges start at what corresponds to our third year of high school.
  
• Foundational Core: The degree includes a general education block with courses in English and cultural and intellectual history, known as the Foundational Core. This block is taken partly online at SST and partly online at SEU.
  
• Theological Courses: The major block of theological courses is taken online at SST.
  
• Specialization: The degree concludes with a semester of specialization at SEU, either online or on campus in Florida

Degrees

The degree offered through SEU is a Bachelor of Arts in Ministerial Studies with three different specializations:

• Pastoral Ministry
• Worship
• Missions

Students at SST can continue with the degrees they have started or transfer the courses they have completed into an American degree, or continue with a Swedish degree. Since 1994, SST has had twenty years of experience collaborating with an American university, ensuring a smooth partnership.

Accreditation

Southeastern University is accredited at the highest level in the USA by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
