Innehåll

A study of major themes and doctrines contained in the New Testament. Emphasizes the contributions of the various biblical books to the unity of the New Testament.

Utbildningsmål

As a result of successfully completing this course, the student should be able to:

Knowledge and Understanding 
–handle the challenge on New Testament studies, synoptic theology, Johannine theology, theology of the early church and Paul, and general epistles
–be able to render, either orally or in writing, a brief history of scholarly research in New Testament studies and the current state of New Testament studies
–present a comprehensive overview of the Kingdom of God and other issues in the thought, words and actions of Jesus and synthesize the importance for today
–identify and explain the major theological themes and issues in the Fourth Gospel and apply to contemporary contexts
–describe the current problems involved in contemporary interpretations of Paul’s life, work, and thought.

Skills and Abilities
–relate the Old Testament background to the New Testament theological concepts.
–identify and discuss major issues in current synoptic theology
–define, either orally or in writing, the author’s purpose in writing his Gospel in his church context
–compare and discuss the Johannine theology with the theology of the Synoptic Gospels, noting the profile of John
–identify and discuss and explain the central tenets in Paul’s Gospel.

Assessment and Approach
–describe the identity, message, and mission of Jesus and apply insights to issues in church and society
–identify and explicate the major theological issues and themes
–discuss the importance of applying the themes to parallel contemporary issues.
