The course is a basic introduction in European history. The course includes an overview of the history of Europe from the era of the Reformation to the 20th century. The course discusses the impact of the European Reformation and the development of the Atlantic world and the ideological and historical background of the state of Israel.
Utbildningsmål
As a result of successfully completing this course, the student should be able to:
Knowledge and Understanding
-articulate a basic knowledge of the European Reformations and the consequences of the European Protestant heritage
-articulate a basic knowledge of European history, helping them the students to understand the current situation of Europe
-demonstrate a basic orientation in the problems of historiography and historical research and thereby prepare the students for a scholarly and scientific pursuit of the truth and also for further studies in the subject of History
-account for the fate of the Jewish people in Europe and being able to contribute a greater understanding of the Jewish heritage and the creation of the state of Israel.
Skills and Abilities
-write a well-structured and well-argued paper
-oral presentation of the paper
-write a book report, identifying key points and formulate a reasoned and pertinent assessment of the work in question.
Assessment and Approach
-assess the validity of historical research methods
-assess the validity of historiographical approaches to European history
-assess the validity of different theories concerning the impact of the Reformation on modernization in Europe.
